Royal Park is the largest of Melbourne's inner city parks with an total area coverage of 1.81 kilometres squaded.
This park was first recognised and instituted in 1984 by the Melbourne City Council, the park has undergone many changes before and since its institution.
Such as in 1860, where it was the starting point of the Burke and Wills expedition to the Gulf of Carpentaria, which ended horribly with the deaths of both of them.
During the First World war, the park served as a military camp and training. The park would become host to US troops during the Second World War prior to their deployment in the Pacific War campaigns.
However, in 1984 that was when it was instituted as a park and redesigned with the idea of creating wide open spaces with open grass fields, eucalupt forests, sport grounds, gardens and wetlands
